A few years ago, when we moved into our home in Hermosa Beach, we heard a swirling rumor about our new place of residence. “Did you know The Beach Boys used to live there?,” we heard from a neighbor passing by. Upon further research, we discovered that Dennis Wilson, The Beach Boys’ drummer, lived here from 1962 to 1965, while he was 18 - 21 years old.
We then learned that the band wrote much of the Surfin’ USA album in the garage that is now the CHIME workshop. It’s mind blowing to know we shared the same creative space.
Since Dennis was the drummer of The Beach Boys and I make jewelry out of drum cymbals, I was inspired to create this mini line of jewelry, Good Vibrations. Sunshine was a prominent theme in The Beach Boys’ music. In these difficult times, I thought we could all use a little ray of sunshine. I designed these pieces as a reminder that no matter how dark it gets, there is always a sunny day coming to warm our spirits and ease our minds!
Dennis struggled with addiction throughout the 60s and 70s, and eventually drowned while in a deep state of intoxication at the age of 39. The proceeds from this line, designed in his honor, will help bring some sun in a real way to people that need hope. 50% of all the proceeds from the Good Vibrations line will go directly to the Divided Sky Fund.
The Divided Sky Fund focuses on delivering quality care and compassionate treatment for those suffering from addiction, but cannot afford treatment.
